900 Numbers

Toll-Free and Collect Calls
The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has made a rule concerning 900 number phone services.
This rule requires 900 number services to provide you with certain details.
It also offers other safeguards for you and your family.
Toll-Free Numbers
Don't confuse 900 numbers with 800, 866, 877, or 888 numbers.
You must pay for a 900 number call.
800 and 888 calls are free to you.
The FTC Rules makes it hard for 900 numbers to:
use 800, 888, or other numbers that you might confuse with toll free numbers (they can use these types of numbers if you have signed a contract saying that they can);
transferring you from an 800, 888, or other toll-free number to a 900 number;
calling you back collect if you've dialed a toll-free number.
Collect Calls
Under FCC regulations, pay-per-call services can't make collect calls to you if the charge would be more than the regular long distance charge for the call.
You can't be charged for collect calls from anywhere unless you've stated clearly that you'll accept the charge.
